South Mexico has many beautiful places. Thousands of cenotes, dozens of temples and countless beautiful beaches are waiting for you here. Some of these hotspots are quite far apart and that’s why it’s nice to rent a car for a few days. We found a normal car a bit boring and therefore went looking for something unique. After some searching on the internet we soon found something very cool; A Volkswagen Kombi. This not only looks great, but you can also sleep in so you can wake up in the most beautiful places and be super flexible. A relaxed music on, window open and go!
The Volkswagen Kombi
With the Volkswagen Kombi you have the freedom to explore the Yucatan & Quintana Roo region. You are not dependent on the bus or taxi and tear yourself everywhere. No expensive taxi rides or with 30 other tourists in a tour bus. You also do not have to pay for a hotel stay because you can just sleep in the bus. There is sleeping space for up to four people. The roof can raise you so that there is more space and fresh air comes in. The van can park anywhere you want, for example between the palm trees on the beach or a cozy campsite. In short, a must do if you are in Southern Mexico!
What about safety?
You do not have to worry about safety. In Yucatan & Quintana Roo you have a lot of straight roads with little traffic. Your Dutch driver’s license is simply valid in Mexico. You can camp on campsites or when you are more adventurous, just where you want. Before you get from Martin (the owner) a lot of tips about driving in this oldtimer and the region.
Create roadtrip route
Our route (3 nights):
Day 1: Drive to Coba and watch the sunset at the top of the temple. Overnight in Coba.
Day 2: Visit to Chitchen Itza and Samurá Cenote. Overnight in Akumal.
Day 3: Visit Casa Cenote and camp at the beach at camping ‘Chamico’s’
Day 4: Return to Tulum and return the Kombi.
Where to book?
Martin has three Volkswagen Kombi’s in different cheerful colors. The prices vary per season and are between 66€ and 150€ per night. If you book then you should definitely give Martin our greetings! Booking or checking availability can be done via the following links: Mandarina Kombi, Kiwi Kombi or Azulita Kombi.
