Where to sleep with your kombi

With a kombi you sleep in the van itself: it has a bed and a pop-up roof with a second bed. We recommend campsites, especially beach ones, so you have bathrooms and electricity when you need them. Favourites of our travellers: Chamicos in Soliman Bay, Xpu-Ha, Paa Mul and Camping Xkopek near Valladolid.

Where to sleep with your kombi

Beach campsites

Chamicos, Soliman Bay: about 20 minutes from Tulum, you can park a few metres from the sea, cook tacos in the kombi and watch the stars.

Xpu-Ha: about 35 km from Tulum, a kombi parked between palm trees on white sand.

Paa Mul: one of Martin’s suggested places to spend the night.

Inland, near cenotes and ruins

Camping Xkopek, Valladolid: one or two nights with pool, green areas and a cenote, a good base for haciendas, cenotes and ruins.

Cobá: travellers stayed overnight after watching the sunset there.

Inland routes are a good plan B on days with sargassum on the coast.

Rules of thumb

Martin tells you where you can and cannot stay, and every booking includes The Kombi Experience book with campsites and spots.

You cannot sleep inside the Tulum archaeological site, but there are campsites on the beach side nearby.
