Frequently asked questions
How do I get to Tulum from Cancún airport?
ADO buses run from Cancún to Tulum in about 2 hours and are very comfortable; a taxi also works. Our place is 5 blocks from the ADO station in Tulum Centro.
Who can drive?
Drivers aged 23 or over, with a licence valid for the whole rental and a credit card.
Is it hard to drive a kombi?
It’s different, not hard: manual gearbox, no power steering, no air conditioning and a relaxed 70 km/h. Martin gives you a lesson and all the tricks before you leave.
Where can I drive?
Anywhere in Quintana Roo. For places further away, like Chichén Itzá, Holbox or Mahahual, let us know first: long distances are harder with a classic VW.
Where can I sleep?
In the kombi. We recommend campsites, especially beach ones, so you have bathrooms and electricity when you need them. The Kombi Experience book lists our favourite spots.
How many people fit?
2 adults and 2 children (ask us before booking for children).
What insurance is included?
Third-party liability (classic vehicles can only carry this cover) and roadside assistance. Credit-card insurance usually does not cover vintage campers.
How does the deposit work?
No security deposit is required.
What about fuel?
You get the kombi with a full tank and return it full. Use Magna (green pump).
What if it breaks down?
Call us first. We cover towing, parts and labour; if it’s serious we swap the kombi if one is available, or refund the remaining days.
What is the cancellation policy?
Free cancellation up to 7 days before arrival; after that the booking is non-refundable.
